Swim Wales has been forced to postpone the Swim Wales National Championships 2023.

Due to extraordinary circumstances with the facilities at Cardiff International Pool that are beyond our control we have had no choice but to postpone the meet. We will look to reschedule the event as a Level 1 Long Course Meet.

Last night we made the decision to go ahead with the National Championships as a short course meet following mechanical fault that caused the ‘moveable floor and boom’ system to remain in the raised position, splitting the 50m pool into two sections.

We were assured we could still run the meet over 25m and acted swiftly to ensure we could deliver a high quality event. This morning we were informed that the floor was not level which contravenes World Aquatics rules and poses a significant safety risk.

The safety of our participants is of paramount importance to us and we have had no choice but to postpone.

We can only apologise for the significant disruption caused, we are deeply disappointed with the outcome and will be working with our facility partners to ensure a situation like this never happens again.

All participants registered to take part in the event will receive an email notifying them of the change with further information about the updated Swim Wales National Championships 2023. As a result of the event cancellation, event entry fees and spectator tickets can be refunded upon request by contacting [email protected].

Swim Wales will be issuing further updates in due course.
