What should I expect on a Swim Wales Training course?

Swim Wales Training & Development Team, offer a comprehensive and wide ranging portfolio of courses for aspiring aquatic volunteers, teachers and coaches. Please see below a selection of our programme.

Swim Wales is an Approved Centre for the Swim England Qualifications (SEQ) and also the Institute of Swimming Coaching Courses. Swim Wales courses offer the highest quality training to become a swimming assistant, fully qualified swimming teacher or complete your aquatic coaching courses.

Swim Wales also offers a wide selection of workshops and masterclasses including in partnership with Institute of Swimming, UK Coaching, CIMSPA and Sport Leaders.

How much is a course?

SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and the Swim England Assistant Swimming Coach courses are £395. With regards to the SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming and the Swim England Swimming Coach these are £680. These costs includes all your registration and assessment costs, all tutor fees and includes all course resources needed. We are now able to deliver Combined Teachers Course where you can complete your Level 1 and Level 2 at the same time for a reduced cost of £950.

What Required Prior Learning (RPL) is and how it may be applicable to you?

The recognition of a Learner’s previous achievements and / or experience is known as RPL.
RPL is a general term and is a process of recognising previous learning, experience or achievement so that a Learner does not have to repeat learning or assessment.

What will I gain from the Swim Coaching Courses?

The Swim England Swimming Assistant (Coaching) course is designed to provide you with an introduction to the knowledge, skills and understanding of the safe and ethical principles for effective coaching practices in swimming.

Building on the knowledge and skills developed as an assistant coach the Swim England Swimming Coach course focuses on the planning, delivery, and evaluation of coaching sessions. The certificate aims to provide and equip you, with the skills, knowledge, tools, and techniques to effectively plan, prepare, deliver, monitor, and evaluate swimming coaching sessions.

What will I learn on the teaching course?

The SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and work alongside a fully qualified swim teacher. 

The SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Swimming Teacher.

This qualification builds on the knowledge, skills and abilities developed in the SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification.  This is the industry standard to work as a fully qualified swimming teacher.

Are there any pre-requisites for the teaching course?

Yes there are. You need to be at least 16 years old at the start of the course and competent swimmer – you do not need to be an Olympic swimmer….

In addition, for the Level 2 course, you will need to hold a SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teacher) or a Swim England Level 1 Award in Teaching Aquatics (or equivalent qualification) certificated after 1994.

Are there any pre-requisites for the coaching courses?

Yes they are. You must be at least 16 years of age. There are no formal entry requirements for the Assistant Coach certificate and you do not need any previous experience of coaching.

You must be at least 18 years of age and hold the Swim England Assistant Swimming Coach, ASA Level 1 Award (QCF) in Coaching Swimming or equivalent Swim England/ASA qualification.

How long is the duration of the course?

Our Level 1 courses are approximately 30 hours, and our Level 2 are 60 hours in total respectively. These course can be delivered in a variety of timescales to fit with the various demands, commitment level and customer needs.

Therefore, our Training calendar reflects this with a variety of course deliveries.

For example a Level 1 course can be delivered 4 day intensive or over two weekends. Whereas, a Level 2 course could be delivered during a two week intensive, over multiple weekends etc.

When will I receive my certificate?

As a Swim England Qualifications Approved centre, our role once you have completed a course is to then send your work to be internally verified for quality assurance. Once this process is complete, Swim Wales will send your E Certificate via email.

If you have already completed a course with us but haven’t yet received your certificate, don’t worry – this entire process can take up to 12 weeks. For more information, please feel free to contact the Swim Wales Office on 01792 513580

How long do the qualifications last?

All Swim England qualifications remain valid with no expiry date.

Swim Wales Training & Development Team offer a comprehensive and wide-ranging portfolio of courses for aspiring aquatic volunteers, teachers, and coaches. Examples include CIMPSA endorsed Level 3 Swim Co-ordinator, Bubbles & Splash, Teaching Adults, Aquatic DIT, Safeguarding, Time to Listen, Long Term Health, Volunteer Awards but there are many more.
