Update as of 21:00 12/04/23

The Swim Wales National Championships 2023 will now be run Short Course after Swim Wales were informed of an issue with the facilities at Cardiff International Pool on Wednesday evening.

We were faced with the difficult decision whether to cancel the event or change the format at 20:00 on Wednesday, and took swift action to ensure we could deliver a National Championships, albeit over 25 metres instead of 50.

The Cardiff venue had stepped in to host the event after issues with the “moveable boom and floor” system in Wales National Pool in Swansea. Unfortunately, Cardiff International Pool now also has a mechanical fault that has caused the system to remain in the raised position, splitting the 50m pool into two sections.

We are deeply disappointed with this outcome after putting all our efforts into delivering a high-quality Level One Licensed Long Course meet to give swimmers every opportunity to qualify for high level domestic and international meets later this year.

We apologise for the disruption the venue change and now the significant changes to the format of the event. While we are bitterly disappointed with these developments, we will continue to work tirelessly alongside staff at Cardiff International Pool to ensure we can deliver the best possible event.

All participants registered to take part in the event will receive an email notifying them of the change with further information about the updated Swim Wales National Championships 2023. As a result of the event format change, event entry fees and spectator tickets can be refunded upon request by contacting [email protected].

There will be coaches meeting at 07:45 Thursday morning to further explain the situation and field any questions.
