Swim Wales National Championships 2023: CHANGE OF VENUE

The Swim Wales National Championships 2023 will now be held at Cardiff International Pool after unforeseen issues with the facilities at Wales National Pool, Swansea.

We have been made aware that the moveable ‘boom and floor’ which can be raised to split the 50m pool into two sections in Swansea has a mechanical fault which has caused it to remain in the raised position.

As the Swim Wales National Championships are scheduled as a Level One Long Course licensed meet, we were forced to find an alternative venue for this year’s event. As soon as we were made aware of the issue at Wales National Pool, we acted swiftly to ensure we could deliver a high quality National Championships event for our Welsh swimmers.

We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption caused by this venue change, but as the competition acts as a key qualifier for future events, including the British Swimming Summer Championships and the Commonwealth Youth Games, we made the decision to relocate the meet to Cardiff.

All participants registered to take part in the event will receive an email notifying them of the change with further information about the updated Swim Wales National Championships 2023.

Can I receive a refund for competition entry fees and/or spectator tickets?

As a result of the event venue change, should competitors be unable to attend, event entry fees and spectator tickets can be refunded upon request by contacting [email protected]

Will my competition entry fees, poolside passes and spectator tickets be honoured for the change of venue?

Your competition entry fees, poolside passes and spectator tickets are all transferrable to the event in Cardiff. There may be limited spectator tickets to purchase on the day dependent on pre-booked sales.

Can I receive a refund for accommodation and/or travel I have booked in Swansea?

Swim Wales are not responsible for accommodation/travel and other related costs incurred as a result of event cancellation/venue changes.

Will there be an amended session timetable and race programme?

No, the race programme will remain as 8 lanes for heats and finals and therefore, the current published session timetable will remain as planned. A seeded race programme will be available within the coming days and all other event information can be accessed here:

Is there designated parking for competitors, spectators, coaches, officials and volunteers in Cardiff for the event?

Parking arrangements are being negotiated and will be confirmed in a further communication.

Is there a warm-up schedule and will there be a swim down facility?

Yes, a warm-up schedule will be publish on the dedicated event webpage this week. Unfortunately there will be no opportunity for competitors to swim down following their races.
