Wales and the rest of the United Kingdom has entered a period of National Mourning following the peaceful passing of Her Majesty The Queen at Balmoral yesterday. The mourning period will run until the end of the day of the State Funeral.

Swim Wales has liaised with Welsh Government and Sport Wales and has developed guidance that we would like to share with the Aquatics community in Wales.

The guidance states: “There is no obligation to cancel or postpone events and sporting fixtures, or close entertainment venues during the National Mourning period. This is at the discretion of individual organisations.

“As a mark of respect, organisations might wish to consider cancelling or postponing events or closing venues on the day of the State Funeral. They are under no obligation to do so and this is entirely at the discretion of individual organisations.”

Clubs and individuals may continue their aquatic activity, including any competitions or galas that may be organised for this period. We would strongly advise all event organisers and volunteers to check with facility operators, where relevant, on any changes to their own operations during the period of National Mourning.

Event organisers and clubs may pay tribute to The Queen in their own way during the Mourning Period. As a mark of respect, and in keeping with the tone of National Mourning, Swim Wales recommends organisers to hold a period of silence and/or play the National Anthem at the start of events.

We also recommend that any social media posts from clubs remain respectful and considered during this time.

Swim Wales will update our Membership if and when the NGB receives any further guidance from Welsh Government.

Diolch.
