The Swim Wales Challenge Series heads to Snowdonia National Park this weekend as Llyn Tegid prepares to play host to hundreds of open water swimmers of all ages and abilities.

A variety of events will take place at Wales’ largest natural lake on Saturday across three distances. It promises to be an unmissable event for the open water swimming community. Here we look at everything you need to know ahead of the big day.

WHERE IS THE EVENT TAKING PLACE?

The event will take place at Llyn Tegid, Bala, LL23 7YE. Measuring 5 miles long and half a mile at its widest point, Llyn Tegid is Wales’ largest natural lake. The lake is a popular place for water sports such as paddle boarding, canoeing, windsurfing and fishing.

The stunning location, set in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, is easily accessible by car, with Bala railway station nearby.

WHICH EVENTS ARE BEING HELD?

Alongside the showpiece Swim Wales Challenge Series event, there are a number of races throughout the day, listed below:

  • Welsh National Age Group Races: 12-13 Years – 2km, 14-15 – 3km, 16-17 – 5km, 18+ – 5km.
  • Challenge Series Races: Open races – 1km, 3km & 5km
  • GB Masters Championships: 3km

WHAT TIME DOES IT START?

Registration opens from 08:00 before the National Age Group races kick-off the action from 09:30 after a period of acclimatisation. Our second start will see the GB Masters 3km get underway from 11:45, before the Challenge Series begins at 14:00. The 2km Team Relay race rounds off the day at 16:15.
