Swim Wales is delighted to announce additional long course opportunities for swimmers across Wales following the postponement of the Swim Wales National Championships 2023.

After the unfortunate cancellation of the National Championships, Swim Wales has looked to create opportunities to allow swimmers to compete at a high level whilst giving them opportunities to qualify for domestic and international competitions this summer.

We are now able to provide additional Level 1 Long Course opportunities for the Welsh aquatics community within the qualification window for the British Swimming Summer Championships and Swim Wales Summer Open.

CITY OF SWANSEA AQUATICS MAY LONG COURSE OPEN MEET 2023

From Saturday 6th – Sunday 7th May, City of Swansea Aquatics will be hosting their annual Level 1 Long Course Meet, which has now been extended to Monday 8th May to give a further qualification opportunity to all club relay entries who were due to race at the SW National Championships.

The clubs who entered relay events at the postponed SW National Championships will be contacted directly by the Swim Wales events team to be offered their relay races at Wales National Pool Swansea. Should they accept, re-entry will be arranged by the Swim Wales events team. City of Swansea Aquatics will also be offering selected scratched swimmers an opportunity to compete during the Monday sessions.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to City of Swansea Aquatics for accommodating the additional day to provide more competition opportunities for our Welsh swimmers. Swim Wales hugely appreciates the time and effort put in by the club’s volunteers to make this happen at such short notice. We would also like to thank City of Cardiff Swimming Club for supporting the process.

SWIM WALES LONG COURSE MEET NORTH 2023

For swimmers and clubs based in the North, Swim Wales will be delivering a one-day Level 1 Long Course Meet at Liverpool Aquatics Centre on Saturday 20th May. The Swim Wales Long Course Meet North 2023 will be a closed event for competitors who are registered ranked members of North Wales affiliated clubs, and they must have an active Swim Wales competitive membership.

If all available spaces are not filled by North Wales club swimmers when entries close, there may be a phase two entry stage, open to all other competitive members. Further information about the Swim Wales Long Course Meet North 2023 can be found on the event page which details meet and entry conditions, click here for more. Entries will go live on Tuesday 25th April at 10:00 (subject to change), and will close on Sunday 30th April at 17:00.

CITY OF CARDIFF INTERNATIONAL OPEN MEET

In the South East, we would also encourage Welsh swimmers to enter the Level 1 Long Course City of Cardiff International Open Meet, which will be held on Saturday 20th – Sunday 21st May, subject to the ‘moveable boom and floor’ being in working order. Entries are open now, and close on Wednesday 26th April.

We would like to thank everyone affected for your patience and understanding during what has been a difficult period for our swimmers, coaches and their families. We would also like to thank our Swim Wales volunteers, officials and staff who have worked tirelessly to find solutions for our swimmers in a short space of time.

The Swim Wales events team have already started to review the last few weeks and develop plans and new ways of working where possible should we ever face these scenarios with our national facilities again.
