The Swim Wales Masters Long Course Championships took place on March 1st – 2nd, over St David’s Day, at the Wales National Pool in Swansea. The event showcased brilliant performances, with numerous records broken across various categories.


Highlights:
- Welsh Records: A total of 22 Welsh records were broken during the championships, highlighting the talent in the nation’s Masters swimming community.*
- Scottish Records: Competitors set 3 new Scottish records.*
- British Records: An impressive 18 British records fell during the event, highlighting the exceptional performances by athletes at the event. Dom Wooldridge from City of Cardiff Swimming Club, set a new 30-34 age group British record, swimming the 100m Butterfly in an impressive 56.29.*
- European Records: Swimmers achieved 8 European records. Notably, the Cardiff Masters 4x100m freestyle relay team in the 120-159 age group set a new European record with a time of 3:50.00.*
- World Record: Jo Corben, competing in the 55-59 age category, set a new world record in the 200m backstroke with a remarkable time of 2:30.97.*
Outstanding Individual Performances:
Donald Leatherbarrow: The 87-year-old swimmer set multiple British records, proving that age is no barrier to excellence in the pool:
- 85-89 200m Freestyle: 3:27.55 (GBR Record)*
- 85-89 400m Freestyle: 7:31.26 (GBR Record)*
- 85-89 200m Breaststroke 4:43.43 (GBR Record)*
- 85-89 50m Freestyle 37.98 (GBR Record)*
