Swim Wales has officially released its National Squad Programme Selection Procedures for the 2026/27 season, outlining the framework that will guide athlete progression across its high-performance pathway.

The newly published procedures reinforce Swim Wales’ commitment to building a progressive and inclusive system that supports both swimmers and para-swimmers. At the heart of the programme is the organisation’s performance mission: To support the holistic development of swimmers and para-swimmers to achieve their full potential, aspiring to achieve podium success at Commonwealth, Olympic and Paralympic level.

The document details the criteria and expectations for selection across all tiers of the national pathway. These include the National Elite and National Elite Transition squads at the top end, alongside the Senior Performance, Youth Performance, and Performance Foundation programmes. Together, these tiers are designed to provide structured development opportunities for athletes at different stages of their careers, ensuring a clear and supportive route from emerging talent to international performance.
