Swim Wales Performance Team Update and Advice for ALL Swimmers and Coaches

North Wales

Swim Wales Performance Team Update and Advice for ALL Swimmers and CoachesFollowing on from the Swim Wales statement released yesterday regarding club closures, we can confirm that ALL Swim Wales National Programme activity has been cancelled until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This includes:1. All planned National Skills Academy and Youth Development training days2. All planned National Para Performance centre training sessions3. All planned National Senior Elite and Elite Development international competition activity4. All planned National Coach Development sessions

Clearly the current situation will be extremely challenging for swimmers, coaches and clubs for the foreseeable future and as the situation evolves it will be important to make contingency plans to ensure that swimmers can maintain a level of mental and physical fitness and health, as clearly usual training routines will be heavily disrupted.

To support this challenging time, the Swim Wales Performance team, in conjunction with Sport Wales, are developing advice, guidance and resources for athletes and coaches to ensure mental and physical fitness and health can be maintained as effectively as possible. This guidance will cover many appropriate areas and will start to be distributed in a phased manner from as early as tomorrow, predominantly via the Swim Wales website and social media accounts.

Additionally, athletes should also continue to communicate and work with their home coach to develop individual strategies through this period.

Everyone should also continue to follow the Government advice and make use of the following online resources for up to date information about Coronavirus:

NHS Wales website

UK Government Coronavirus guidance website

UK Government Foreign and Commonwealth Office travel advice website - specific to China

UK Government Foreign and Commonwealth Office website – for all countries

The Public Health Wales Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts for public health information in Wales

It is important that we all try to be as proactive as possible through this period, show the ability to accept and adapt to the ever changing situation, make good decisions and support one another as a community of athletes, coaches and practitioners. This will ensure that we all come out in the best possible place when everything returns to normal.
