In line with this exciting announcement, Swim Wales has today also published its Nomination and Selection Policy for Swimming and Para-Swimming, which has been agreed by Swim Wales and Commonwealth Games Wales (CGW).  In relation to Swimming, this policy provides details on the process by which Swim Wales will arrive at its nominations to be submitted to CGW for consideration to represent Team Wales at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. In relation to Para Swimming, this policy provides details by which athletes will gain selection via the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Athlete Allocation System.

The Games will feature a 10-sport programme, including six fully integrated Para Sports, hosted in four venues within an eight-mile corridor, ensuring an action-packed broadcast schedule across each day of competition and making the event accessible and appealing to spectators.

The Swimming and Para Swimming events will take place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre and will once again be an integral part of the Games, showcasing the sport across 6 days of intense competition.

Ross Nicholas, National Performance Director at Swim Wales, said:

‘With a little over 12 months to go until the start of the Games, we are excited to publish this policy and hope that it’s release enables and inspires swimmers and coaches to set clear goals and plans leading into 2026.

‘The Commonwealth Games provides a unique and exciting opportunity for our athletes to represent Wales at a major multi-sport Games, and we are very much looking forward to working closely with Team Wales over the next 12 months to ensure our athletes receive the very best support through the nomination and selection process and beyond to the Games themselves.

‘The Glasgow Games will be an incredible showcase for swimming and para swimming and I’m excited to see how the swimmers will step up over the year ahead and challenge for places on Team Wales.”
