Swim Wales is proud to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the Most Influential Campaign at the upcoming Welsh Sports Association (WSA) Sports Industry Awards 2025, for our involvement in the Nofio Ysgol Caerdydd (Cardiff School Swimming) initiative.
The campaign, a collaborative effort between Swim Wales, Cardiff Met University, Cardiff Council, GLL, Legacy Leisure, and Urdd Gobaith Cymru, is being recognised for its outstanding impact on children’s access to swimming education across Cardiff. Since its launch, the initiative has driven a remarkable rise in school swimming participation — from 57% to 74% — in just a short time, making significant strides in both water safety and public health.
“As the national governing body for aquatics in Wales, we are honoured to be part of a project that is not only transforming young lives but also setting a new benchmark for collaborative, community-driven programmes,” said Fergus Feeney, CEO of Swim Wales. “This nomination reflects the shared commitment of all partners to making swimming education in Wales more accessible and inclusive.”
The Nofio Ysgol Caerdydd programme is a life-saving intervention, helping to equip children with essential water safety skills. The initiative has also demonstrated how costs can be reduced and has helped build a scalable and impactful model for Wales.
Hanna Guise, Learn to Swim Manager at Swim Wales, said:
“We’re proud of the difference the Nofio Ysgol Caerdydd initiative is making in children’s lives. To see the increase in swimming participation in the area is a testament to what’s possible when partners come together with a shared vision.”
The WSA Sports Industry Awards 2025, headlined by Howden, will take place on Thursday 12 June 2025, celebrating excellence, innovation, and impact in Welsh sport and leisure.
Swim Wales congratulates all nominees and looks forward to celebrating the sector’s achievements at the awards ceremony on June 12th.
