The Games will bring together around 1,150 young athletes aged 14–18 from 74 nations and territories across the Commonwealth, competing in eight sports. Notably, the 2027 edition will feature Water Polo for the first time, alongside the inclusion of Para Swimming, making this the largest Para sport programme in Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) history.

A fantastic step forward for inclusion and our aquatic pathways in Wales.

Fergus Feeney, Swim Wales Chief Executive Officer, said:

“This is a big milestone for aquatic sport in Wales. The inclusion of Water Polo and Para Swimming provides more opportunities than ever before for our young talented athletes to shine on the international stage.”

“We look forward to working with Team Wales and the federation on the details and planning for the road to Malta 2027.”
