Hailing from Welshpool, Dan Jones began his swimming journey at the Oswestry Otters Swimming Club, where he served as both junior and senior captain before progressing to the Swim Wales Elite Squad. From an early age, he set his sights on representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games. Dan was also inspired by watching Michael Phelps on the tv at the 2008 Olympics.

After narrowly missing selection for the 2018 Commonwealth Games by less than half a second, Jones remained determined and earned his place on the team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Competing for Team Wales in Birmingham, he delivered a strong campaign with four fourth-place relay finishes (Mixed 4×100m Freestyle, Men’s 4×100m Freestyle, Men’s 4×200m Freestyle, and Men’s 4×100m Medley) alongside a 13th-place finish in the 50m Freestyle.

In 2023, Jones claimed a major individual milestone by winning silver in the 100m Freestyle (49.58) at the British Summer Championships. A powerful freestyle specialist, he has consistently broken long-standing Welsh national records, establishing himself as one of Wales’ leading sprint swimmers.

Dan has shown some great recent form recording a new lifetime best in the 200m freestyle at the 2026 Aquatics GB Championships.
