Welsh Swimmers take on the best from the US at the TYR pro series Austin

From the 11th to 14th January, 12 swimmers from the Swim Wales Senior Elite and Elite Development Squads competed in Austin, Texas at the USA Swimming TYR pro series. The event provided a great opportunity for the swimmers to gain exposure to the highest levels of competition and challenge themselves against an international field that included numerous World and Olympic medalists from the USA as well as international teams from Canada, Japan and China. The team produced some truly outstanding performances with the stand out performances coming from:

  • Chloe Tutton who won gold in the 200m breaststroke (2:23.92)
  • Alys Thomas who also won gold in the 200m butterfly (2:09.50)
  • Harriet Jones who set a new Welsh National record (26.63) in coming 4th in the 50m butterfly.

 Other notable performances came from:

  • Xavier Castelli (6th A final 200m backstroke)
  • Alys Thomas (4th A final 100m butterfly)
  • Harriet Jones (6th A final 200m butterfly, 1st B final 100m butterfly)
  • Medi Harris (7th B final 100m backstroke at just 15 years of age)
  • Lewis Fraser (7th A final 50m butterfly at just 17 years of age)
  • Chloe Tutton (6th A final 50m breaststroke)
  • Dan Jervis (6th A final 1500m freestyle)¬†
  • Dan Jones (6th B final 100m freestyle)
