Team Wales announce Aquatics Squad for Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018

Swim Wales are delighted to confirm that 15 athletes have gained selection to represent Team Wales at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which will take place on the Gold Coast, Australia from the 4th – 16th April. The squad is made up of 12 swimmers, 2 para–swimmers and 1 diver. Ross Nicholas, Swim Wales National Performance Director, said ‘It is great to see such a strong group of aquatic athletes selected for the 2018 Games and their selection is a result and reward for the incredible dedication and commitment that they (and their home coaching team) show on a daily basis to improve themselves as athletes. To represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games is a highlight in the career of any Welsh athlete and the team is looking forward to joining up with the other sports at the Games to represent Team Wales with pride.’

The 15 Aquatic Athletes selected are:

  • Kathryn Greenslade - Swimming
  • Harriet Jones - Swimming
  • Ellena Jones - Swimming
  • Harriet West - Swimming
  • Bethan Sloan - Swimming
  • Calum Jarvis - Swimming
  • Daniel Jervis - Swimming
  • Xavier Castelli - Swimming
  • Jack Thomas – Para swimming
  • Alex Rosser – Para swimming
  • Aidan Heslop - Diving

The squad contains a mix of experienced athletes as well as some exciting young sporting talent. Nicholas said ‘The balance of the squad is extremely exciting and includes some very experienced athletes who have won medals at a global level as well as several athletes who will be making their major games debut on the Gold Coast. These athletes will be very well supported at the Games by 9 specific aquatic staff members who will bring a variety of expertise to help the athletes achieve their potential in April, as well as the being supported by the Team Wales HQ staff which will be led by Chef de Mission, Prof. Nicola Phillips’.

  • Sally Freeman – Diving Coach
  • Julie Morgan – Team Manager

Nicholas added ‘the Aquatics events are always very competitive at the Commonwealth Games and we look forward as a team to taking on the challenge of facing some of the best swimmers in the World at what should be a truly spectacular event at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.’
