Synchro duo win GOLD
- Artistic Swimming
Gold for Wales!
Two Artistic swimmers made the long journey to Glasgow to compete in the Scottish National and Age Group Open Synchronised Swimming Championships 2017.
Megan Pullen (16) and Sophie Williams (14) attended the event to compete in the 19 & under Duet, the pair both swim for City of Swansea Aquatic Club under Swansea Synchro. This is currently the only competitive Artistic (synchro) Swimming Club based in Wales. Megan was the first ever member of the club when it was established in 2013 with Sophie joining later in 2014 but it was only since March 2017 the pair have been training together as a duet.
The girls work incredibly hard during every training session to ensure they perform their routine to the highest of standard. Their routine last for 2min 30sec and 80% of this time is spent underwater, performing a number of skills and figures, not only in time to the music but also with each other.
The Girls have only once competed this duet where they just missed out on a medal finish and came a disappointing fourth place but this did not bring the pair down it raised them up they took their score back to club and where determined to improve. They spend hours breaking down every element to ensure they are completely synchronised and the skills where performed to the highest of their ability.
The girls had a warm welcome from the Scottish when arriving at the venue Sunday morning where they conducted themselves in the most professional manor ensuring they were fully prepare to swim their heats out. They made sure they were stretched and in the zone ready to do Wales proud. This is just what they did they come home with a gold medal and a win for Wales in the 19 & under duet with a score of 55.6000!
Well done Megan and Sophie!"
