On Sunday 13th October 2013, 13 Swimmers aged between
14 to 16 years old attended the Swim Wales Leaders
award. The group swapped their swimming costumes for
tracksuits and changed roles from swimmer to coach. The
course was delivered by Penny John-Pearse education manager for
The course was split in to 3 modules. Module
1 comprised of the group learning about communication
through fun and games. The second module was all
about planning, where the group learned through fun
and games. They planned the games and played the games,
the group then reviewed the games they had created and
changed the games accordingly as per their reviews.
The final module was about swimming specific, where
they learned about swimming techniques, teaching techniques
and learned the basics of coaching young children.
This was a fantastic opportunity for the swimmers to experience
swimming from a coaches perspective. Swim Wales also gave
the group the opportunity to join the hour bank scheme
where they can bank the hours they volunteer and gain rewards for
their hard work.
