Swim Wales Disability Performance Programme Selection Criteria


National Elite

Swimmers that meet thequalification criteria as set out below will be CONSIDERED for selection to the
Swim Wales National Elite programme for a 12 month period between 1stSeptember to 31st August 2014.

To be considered forselection on the National Elite squad, swimmers must meet the selection criteria outlined. However, these should be seen as a pre-requisite for consideration as it does not guarantee selection.

Essential Criteria required for consideration:

1) Swimmers must post a consideration time for Podium Potential E level against their age, classification and event. For times please click on links below.

2) Athletes will only be considered for selection provided they have either an IPC or British Swimming classification (S1-S13), IPC or INAS-FID Classification (S14) or an ICSD Classification (S15)

3) Athletes must be full Swim Wales member and be registered to a swimming club affiliated to The ASA,
WASA or SASA and be eligible to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games or Great Britain at the Paralympic Games or Deaflympics.

4) The minimum age for athletes to be selected onto the National Elite programme is 13 years old

5) Only times that have been made at the designated meets outline in this selection policy will be
eligible for consideration

6) Any change to the athletes classification at any time, for whatever reason, during the year will result in a review of the athletes place on the squad. If the athlete has not made a consideration time for their new classification within an agreed period of time (minimum 3 months from change of classification) the athlete will be withdrawn from the squad.

7) Athletes wishing to be considered for selection to the National Elite programme must achieve the published times for their age, as of 31st December 2014, in one of the designated Long Course or Short Course events listed below, as appropriate to their age, between 1st September 2012 and 31st August 2014:

    Long Course Championships 2013

8) Split times, relay times and performances from Time Trials will not be considered

9) Only times from electronic timing will be considered

10) Athletes must commit and comply to all Swim Wales conditions and requirements including Anti Doping control rules, athlete code of conduct and Disciplinary code.

General

Athletes are reminded that inclusion onto the programme is a privilege and not a right and are expected to remain committed to their training. Athletes that are not showing a steady progression or full commitment to their programme may have their position on the squad removed.

Swimmers on the programme the previous year, who have not made the consideration criteria, may
be included onto programme under a 4 month confirmation period, depending upon how close they are to meeting the standards. This will be under the discretion of Swim Wales National Performance Director and National Disability Swimming Manager

Swim Wales National Performance Director and National Disability Swimming Manager, at their discretion, have the right to select swimmers that may not have achieved the published times, or be outside of the age range but are showing performances that are progressive along the athlete pathway

Home Nation Talent

Swimmers that meet the qualification criteria as set out below will be CONSIDERED for selection to the Swim Wales National Talent programme for a 12 month period between 1st September to 31st August 2014.

To be considered for selection on the National Talent programme, swimmers must meet the selection criteria outlined. However, these should be seen as a pre-requisite for consideration as it does not guarantee selection.

Essential Criteria required for consideration:

1) Swimmers must post a consideration time for Home Nation Talent against their age, classification and event. For times please see links below

Home Nation Potential

Swimmers that meet the qualification criteria as set out below will be CONSIDERED for selection to the Swim Wales Home Nation Potential for a 12 month period between 1st September to 31st August 2014.

In additional to being included into the Inspire squad, identified swimmers will be given the opportunity to access additional training through attending selected Home Nation Talent squad camps.

Essential Criteria required for consideration:

1) Athletes will only be considered for selection provided they have either an IPC or British Swimming classification (S1-S13), IPC or INAS-FID Classification (S14) or an ICSD Classification (S15)

2) Athletes must be a full Swim Wales member and be registered to a swimming club affiliated to The ASA, WASA or SASA and be eligible to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games or Great Britain at the Paralympic Games or Deaflympics.

3)  Athletes who are selected into the Home Nation Potential will be between 10 and 16 years old

4) Swimmers must post a time that is within 15% of a Home Nation Talent consideration time. For swimmers that have been on the programme for 1 year, this time will decrease by 5% every year after.

5) Any change to the athletes classification at any time, for whatever reason, during the year will result in a review of the athletes place on the squad. If the athlete has not made a consideration time for their new classification within an agreed period of time (minimum 3 months from change of classification) the athlete will be withdrawn from the squad.

6) Athletes wishing to be considered for selection to the Development Academy programme must achieve
the published times for their age, as of 31st December 2013, in one of the designated Long Course or Short Course events listed below, as appropriate to their age, between 1st September 2012 and 31st August 2013:

Inspire 2016

The Inspire 2016 programme is designed for swimmers that have been identified as potential talent and aged 9-14 years old.

Swimmers do not need to be classified to be invited onto the Inspire 2016 squad, however, they will be expected to have gone through classification within 12 months of being placed into the squad. Exceptional circumstances may apply.

The squad will provide additional skill development training for swimmers and look to progress them
through the National Development Academy and onto the Home Nation Talent squad.  Swimmers will be selected on their technical ability and will be at the discretion of the National Disability Swimming Manager

Essential Criteria for consideration:

1)Athletes must meet the eligibility standards for classification

2)Athletes must be aged between 9yrs and 14 years of age

3)Athletes must be a full Swim Wales member and be registered to a swimming club affiliated to The ASA, WASA or SASA and be eligible to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games or Great Britain at the Paralympic Games or Deaflympics

4)Any changes to the classification eligibility of the swimmer at any time, for whatever reason, during the year will result in a review of the athletes place on the squad. This will include non classification at an event

General

Athletes are reminded that inclusion onto the squad is a privilege and not a right and are expected to remain committed to their training. Athletes that are not showing a steady progression or full commitment to their programme may have their position on the squad removed.

Swim Wales National Performance Director and National Disability Swimming Manager, at their discretion, have the right to select swimmers that may be outside of the age range but are showing performances that are progressive along the athlete pathway
