Cwmbran Swimming Club's, Gerald Sims, has been
nominated to receive a Community Award from Cwmbran Council for
25 years voluntary service as a Swimming Teacher and
Coach within the community of Cwmbran and Torfaen.
"Over the 25 years I've seen many changes in Welsh Swimming and
still enjoy the life" said Sims. "Even after having Prostate Cancer
in 2008, then an operation to have my Prostate removed,
I was back on poolside within two weeks - this is where I
belong!"
In 2006, Sims joined the staff of Torfaen Leisure Centre
teaching the National Plan for Teaching Swimming and became
the first Chairman of Torfaen County.
As well as being a voluntary teacher/coach for 25 Years, he's
also been treasurer of Cwmbran Swimming Club for 26 Years,
"another position I enjoy".
Sims will collect his award at the Cwmbran Awards
Evening on Thursday 22nd November 2012.
"An honour for myself, Cwmbran Swimming Club and Swim
Wales."
