Bob Morgan Trophy 2012

 

Diving1The 2012 -13 diving season kicked off for Welsh Clubs with their best medal haul to date at the Bob Morgan Trophy in Bangor this weekend.  The event, hosted by Bangor Billidowcars diving Club is now in its second year and attracts divers from clubs across Britain. 72 divers from Bradford, Bury, Aberdare, Bangor and Tom Daleys home club Plymouth, competed in ten events split into age group categories. In each event the top three individual positions where awarded medals and every participant could earn team points up towards the overall winners trophy.

This year saw the first Group F (5-7yrs) level divers competing for Welsh clubs. Ellis Williams, Coel Jones and Keira Philpot (ACDC) and Maddy O'Sulivan (BBDC) put on a good performance against the well established Plymouth and Bradford club divers finishing 7th, 5th, 4th and 5th respectively. Watch out for theses little stars in the not so distant future!

In the group E category (8-9yrs), one of the toughest events of the day, Seren Watkins (ACDC) finished 6th with 142.70 points and Anya Arkless Daniel Hourihan - Silver - Bangor Novices 2012(BBDC) finished 5th with 145.60 points. Ewan Purnell (ACDC) in the boys category finished 6th with a very respectable 155.15 points.

Group D (10-11yrs) the largest group of the day saw Emily Thomas (ACDC) come 13th with 150.15 points and Kaitlin Hughes (BBDC) come 7th with 161.00 points, Manon Hudgell (BBDC) place 6th with 161.20 points, both personal bests and Ffion Watkins (ACDC) place 4th with 165.40 points. In the boys group, Kes Thomas (BBDC) placed 10th with 129.30 points, Thomas Lindley (BBDC) in his first ever competition placed 8th with 135.70 points and Shaun Baker (ACDC) secured the Silver medal spot with 160.40 points missing the top spot by only 3.05 points.

In the group C (12-13yrs) events Leah Silverton (BBDC) secured 5th with 158.10 points, Sophie Pipe (BBDC) placed 4th in her first ever competition with 158.70 points and Caitlin Thomas (ACDC) placed 2nd to secure silver scoring 172.50 points (PB) missing out on the top spot by 1.05 points. In the boys event Callum Lewis (ACDC) placed 8th diving consistently to Kojo Terril And Ollie Arkless - Bangor Novices 2012secure 137.40 points. Ollie Arkless (BBDC) dived well to win place taking Silver medal position with 174.00 points. Kojo Terrile (ACDC) scored 182.65 (PB) points to take Wales' first gold of the meet.

Group B divers Stuart Warburton competing in his first competition placed 5th with 263.10 points, Daniel Hourihan (ACDC) scored 378.55 (PB) taking silver medal position. Megan Davies, although the only female in her category, competed alongside the boys group and scored a personal best of 382.90. Megan's score ranked her in silver medal position against the boy's results.
