Aqua Passport launch at Aberystwyth
Aberystwyth University has joined the new
scheme which incorporates the 'National Learn to Swim Framework'
which is aimed at teaching children of all ages and abilities to
learn to swim. This new and
exciting scheme uses poolside touch screen tablets to monitor and
increase the experience for the learners. These tablets are
connected to an interactive website where children can log in and
track their progress and unlock games to play online.
This technology now means that
teachers can track the performance of a class, an individual, the
attendance and identify early any problems a child could be having
and aim to resolve them quickly and efficiently. Parents can also
log in and view their child's performance and what skills they need
to achieve through the interactive website.
Darren Hathaway Business & Operations
Manager said: 'We are thrilled with the new partnership with
Swim Wales. Our aims have always been to follow best practice and
the introduction of the Aqua Passport Programme will ensure this
continues. The ability for parents to track each session via the
website provides greater transparency and understanding of their
children's progression. The web also rewards the children's
improvement through the interactive gaming portal which helps to
motivate them for their next swimming lesson'.
Aberystwyth University swimming lessons
are currently held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays evenings with
qualified staff and lessons are held on a course basis.
Mark Tancock, Regional Business
Manager, Swim Wales stated: 'At present the University and
Llandysul Aqua Centre are the only providers delivering to the
national framework for Wales in Ceredigion. We hope to support and
develop their program in line with what is seen as best practice
across Wales by ourselves, Sport Wales and Welsh Government.
Ultimately it is all about what is best for the child learning to
swim and the outcomes and techniques used are a reflection of
