Most schools in Wales attend school swimming lessons
provided at local swimming pools but this is often insufficient to
ensure children are either competent or confident
swimmers.
You can help your children develop early aquatic awareness by
taking them swimming regularly from an early age. Make the most of
the free swimming sessions available to children below the age of
16 right across Wales. By ensuring your children learn to
swim you are providing them with:
- access to other water-based activities such as sailing, surfing
or canoeing;
- opportunities to join a club and take part in
competitions;
- the chance to stay healthy through regular exercise;
- a great way to make new friends through a fun
activity.
