Stewart Clamp and Nigel Crowe

Head Coaches Profiles

Stewart Clamp and Nigel Crowe have, between them, over 50 years of coaching experience. They have both been coaches on Senior British Swimming Teams, culminating with experience at Olympic and World level. Their experience in Youth and Age Group swimming is vast and includes coaching roles with both the British Youth Olympics and European Junior Championship teams. At least one of them has attended and has had swimmers qualify for the British Age and Youth Championships every year since 1992.

Both Stewart and Nigel are ASA Level 4 coaches; Stewart has degree in P.E, Sport Science and Recreation Management and is a qualified and experienced secondary school teacher. They each play a significant role in the Swim Flintshire Elite Performance Training Scheme (SFEPTS). Stewart is the Head Coach and takes responsibility for the training of the youth swimmers. Nigel is the Age Group Coach, responsible for the training of the age group swimmers.

The SFEPTS has achieved high levels of success since its inception in 2007:

• medals at both World Junior and Youth Commonwealth games
• medals at the British Age and Youth Championships
• swimmers from the programme have broken Welsh Senior, British Youth, Welsh Youth and British Age records
• several swimmers have graduated to either large University programmes (one in USA) or British Swimming ITCs.

Club Profile

The five Development Swimming Clubs in the area feed into Swim Flintshire's structure of Skills, Potential, North & South and Performance Squads. Each squad is based on Long Term Athlete Development principles.
