Having represented Great Britain himself, Austyn Shortman's goal at Nofio Sir Gâr is to produce Welsh Commonwealth athletes.

Club Profile

The top young swimmers in Carmarthenshire train with the Nofio Sir Gâr performance squad and compete in regional, Welsh and British competitions. With an improved school swimming programme launched across the county in September 2010, a high quality Learn to Swim programme and a competitive club swimming scene, the structure is in place to provide a larger pool of talent for Austyn to develop in future years.

Under Austyn's guidance, with high quality volunteer coaches and sufficient pool time, squad members are developing their potential. In the British National trials in Sheffield in August 2011, Nofio Sir Gâr took five athletes to compete, with 13 year old Owen Cornock finishing 3rd in the 1500m front crawl in his age group. This was an improvement on 2009, when only 2 swimmers achieved the qualifying times to earn a place at the British trials.
