Head Coach Profile
Phil Melhuish is a former Welsh international swimmer from the
City of Cardiff Swimming Club. Coached by Dave Haller in the 50,
100 and 200 metre breaststroke events, he achieved twenty Welsh
Senior records and multiple British Senior National medals. His
career highlight was competing in three events in the 1994
Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada.
A level 4 coach since 2003, his coaching achievements
include:
- 2012 - Three swimmers selected for UK Schools Games
- 2012 - Olympic trials finalist
- 2012 - Celtic tri-nations medallist
- 2011 - Medallist in 50 metre breaststroke world trials
- 2011 - Medals in Youth Commonwealth Games in Isle of Man
- 2010 - Commonwealth Games, Delhi - a swimmer qualified in three
events, placing 4th, 9th and
15th
- 2010 - LEN European Junior Championships, Helsinki - a swimmer
qualified in three events placing 2nd, 3rd
and 4th
- 2010 - Selected as coach for British Youth Squad Training Camp
in Spain
- 2008 - British junior (14 years old) female record 100
breaststroke long course 1:10.18
- 2008 - 2010 - Eight Welsh Junior records broken with male and
female swimmers
- 2005 - 2011 - 83 selections for Welsh National Programmes
- 2003 - 2011 - ASA British National Championships, Sheffield -
57 swimmers qualified achieving thirteen medals plus relays. In
2011, eleven qualified, five finalists.
Phil is currently a member of the Welsh Coaching Panel for Welsh
National Programmes including the Senior squad in 2012, and is a
coach at three International meets each year.
