The majority of Masters swimmers in Wales do not compete but
there are plenty of opportunities to do so, if you wish.
Swim Wales holds its annual Welsh Masters Championships
in March at the Wales National Pool in Swansea - just one of around
50 competitions held in the UK each year.
Masters' competitions are organised in five-year age bands,
25-29, 30-34, 35-39 and so on, with no upper limit! Some
competitions also include a group for those aged 19-24. For most
Masters competitions you don't have to have qualifying times, you
don't even have to have been selected as part of a squad. Anyone
who wants to compete, can compete.
There are also opportunities to try your hand at Open Water
swimming, if the challenge of outdoor conditions appeals to you.
Many first-timers tackle the Dragon Open Water Swim, organised by
Swim Wales each September in Swansea Bay.
