Swimming in the great outdoors requires you to take
precautions which you wouldn't need to consider in a swimming
pool.
- It's best to swim with other people, and always leave details
of your plans with someone before you set off.
- Wear a bright hat so you're easily seen.
- Don't swim near sailing/boating/ferry/jet ski areas.
- If possible, have a kayak or support boat with you.
- Get local advice on good places to swim, tides at sea, currents
in rivers, water quality and access issues.
